Silversea, the leading experiential luxury and expedition brand, has completed its Controtempo World Cruise 2025. Sailing from Tokyo on January 13 and arriving in New York City on May 29, guests experienced many of the most iconic cities and off-the-beaten-path gems in Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America during unconventional seasons, pairing exploration with destination immersion.

“As we conclude our 2025 World Cruise, Controtempo, we are grateful to our incredible guests and dedicated crew who made this journey truly remarkable,” said Bert Hernandez, president, Silversea. “Controtempo highlighted the best of Silversea – from exclusive events, unique shore excursions, and more time in port for our guests to experience popular and off-the-beaten-path destinations during unconventional seasons. Looking ahead, we are eagerly preparing for our next World Cruise and are excited to welcome guests on board Silver Dawn for her second World Cruise.”

A UNIQUE LOOK AT THE WORLD THROUGH SILVERSEA’S SIGNATURE EVENTS

During Controtempo, guests took a new look at the world through seven exclusive events – unique to Silversea’s World Cruises and Grand Voyages – including:

  • The Art of Departure (Tokyo, Japan): On January 13, World Cruise guests experienced the prelude to their journey with a special bon voyage luncheon at the legendary Happo-en, where they indulged in the season’s harvest through the art of washoku, a sensory feast of local dishes paired with fine Japanese wines. During the event, World Cruise guests were welcomed with a “Kagami Baraki,” also known as a Sake Barrel Ceremony, and a sake toast. The afternoon ended with a unique performance by the Hiroshima Junior Marimba Ensemble formed in 1991 by Mieko Asada. These children traveled from Hiroshima with the goal of appealing for peace through music and their worldwide performances have been celebrated by UNESCO.
  • Hoi An for Foodies (Da Nang, Vietnam): On February 1, Controtempo guests continued their journey with an evening of sensorial discovery through the extraordinary flavors of Vietnam. Beginning with a lantern river cruise along Hoi An, guests then enjoyed an exquisite meal at one of three distinct restaurants, highlighting Hoi An’s celebrated culinary traditions.
  • Singapore: A Bird’s Eye View (Singapore): On February 7, guests ascended to new heights of culinary discovery. Enjoying a perch 57 stories above the glittering cityscape of Singapore, guests enjoyed exclusive access to the Sky Park Observation Deck atop the iconic Marina Bay Sands Hotel. As the sun set, guests enjoyed a recreated Hawker Market brought to life with food and entertainment celebrating the diversity of Singapore’s melting pot.
  • Whispers of the Namib, A Celestial Feast (Walvis Bay, Namibia): On February 14, under a rare blood moon and within a lunar landscape tucked beyond the vastness of the Namib – the oldest desert in the world – an unforgettable evening unfolded. Here, guests were treated to a feast of local specialties and served fine South African wines while enjoying the rhythmic beats of marimba music, the harmonies of a choir, and mesmerizing fire-spinners.
  • An Evening with Marie Antoinette in Versailles (Rouen, France): On April 13, guests enjoyed an evening of exclusivity and indulgence in the home of the last Queen of France, Marie Antoinette.   By special arrangement, Silversea guests experienced rare, private access to Versailles’ grand staterooms before dining inside the Gallery of the Battles. With Controtempo, guests experienced Versailles like never before during an evening of dance, elegance, and indulgence culminating with a surprise performance by French mezzo soprano Axielle St Cirel.
  • The World Through Our Eyes (Stockholm, Sweden): On April 29, guests enjoyed a private viewing of Silversea’s 30th Anniversary Photo Exhibition of celebrated photographer Steve McCurry previously curated for Sotheby’s. Following the exhibition – hosted within Alfred Nobel’s former factory Vinterviken – guests enjoyed a menu of Scandinavian specialties from one of Stockholm’s most celebrated chefs. As the summer sun set, guests danced beneath the Disco Ball to ABBA hits performed by former cast members of the West End’s Mamma Mia.
  • An Iconic Musical Farewell (Boston, USA): On May 26, Controtempo ended with a Crescendo in the ultimate finale. Following a meal featuring New England Summer specialties, guests were delighted by a 60-minute, private concert of the Boston Pops, arranged by famed conductor Keith Lockart. The curated performance was inspired by the diverse ports of call guests enjoyed during their voyage. Staged in the iconic Boston Symphony Hall, the evening provided one last opportunity for guests to connect and celebrate their Controtempo journey.
